Begin your journey to becoming a Sports Chaplain

Sports Chaplaincy Training

Our Sports Chaplaincy Training is the primary training for those who are intending to become volunteer sports chaplains.

The training provides the framework for Christian pastoral care and wellbeing support in a broad range of sporting communities, along with key skills and information to get the chaplain active in making a difference in the world of sport.

It includes 21 hours of delivered content, with a minimum of 14 hours face-to-face, along with additional reading and video presentations.

Specialised Training

We offer additional training in skills and competencies towards providing specific support within the world of sport.

Our main specialised course is Incident Responder training, which gives information and a straightforward approach towards helping sports through critical incidents that impact the whole sporting community.

You do not need to be an accredited chaplain to complete this training. It consists of 5 hours of face-to-face instruction and skills development.

Other additional training in areas such as Mental Health First Aid and Athlete Wellbeing are organised on demand.

Accreditation as a Chaplain

SCA’s accreditation is acknowledged across both sport and the church as a mark of trustworthiness in the role of sports chaplain.

If you are seeking accreditation by SCA, there are a number of compliance requirements. It is important that you consider these carefully before applying.

You can find the details of these requirements on the Accreditation page of this website. They include completion of our Sports Chaplaincy Training, and a recommendation from your church minister or pastoral leader that you would be suitable in the role of a chaplain.
