Complete your required training to become an accredited sports chaplain


Be trained in the world leading methodology for ministry to sports communities, including the knowledge and skills to get you started as a sports chaplain.

Sports Chaplaincy Australia’s training emphasises presence within a community as a key to providing appropriate wellbeing support and pastoral care across all levels of sport.

It follows a community or urban chaplaincy model, so is suitable for a broad spectrum of people want to make a positive Christian difference in a key gathering place in their broader community.

This training is required for accreditation as a chaplain with SCA.

Content

  • The Christian framework behind the practice of sports chaplaincy
  • Multiple skill sets towards intentional and caring engagement with people, and creating pathways towards complete wellbeing
  • Information about the shape and nature of the various types of sports communities
  • The understandings needed to serve athletes and the people of sport, at both local and elite level

Sports Chaplaincy Training

Our Sports Chaplaincy Training is our primary training and recommended pathway for those who are seeking to become sports chaplains. The training provides an integrated framework covering role and motivation, factual information, and skills for ministry. It includes 21 hours of delivered content, with a minimum of 14 hours face-to-face, along with additional reading and video presentations.

Sports Chaplaincy Context Supplement

Our Context Supplement training is for those who have previously completed SCA’s Present People course and wish to become sports chaplains. It specifically addresses the role of a sports chaplain, factual information about sports, and additional skills to supplement Present People, in order to complete the training requirements for accreditation as a chaplain.

Sports Chaplaincy Training

 

There will be an online sports chaplaincy training

Commencing Monday, 10 August 2026, at 7:00pm (AEST)

And then each Monday for 7 weeks until 21 September. Each session will go for 2 hours.

The cost for this training is $330 (incl.GST).

NOTE: We are in the process of implementing an online Learning Management System to allow completion of the majority of our training at your own pace. There will still be about 7 hours of instructor led training (either in-person or online) to complete following the self-paced components.

You may prefer to wait for this system to be up and running. We are currently planning for the second half of 2026.
